After a two-month break from competitive action, TD Shipley returned to the pitch in style with an impressive 6–4 victory over Roffey in a lively and entertaining encounter.
With TD being out for a while, the first 10 minutes wasn't the greatest of starts as they were trying to dust off the rust and get back into the motion of playing again.
Roffey made the brighter start and took the lead in the 6th minute, capitalising on the slow TD start to go 1–0 up. TD Shipley responded quickly, however, and found an equaliser just four minutes later in the 10th minute to level the score at 1–1. Superb work by debutant Lacey-rose Smith who drove down the left wing confidently and crossed into a superb area where Abbie Streatfield finished first time to level it.
The momentum shifted to TD who grew into the game and started to play the football we know they can play, chances kept coming but nothing come with it, Roffey took advantage of TD not being able to finish and regained the lead, making it 2–1, undeservedly so, but TD need to bounce back.
TD Shipley again showed resilience and quality to bring the game back to 2–2. Lily Stewart grabbed TD's second equaliser in the 30th minute after she pressed well on the left hand side to force the mistake and continued to drive forwards and compose herself to finish.
3 minutes later Shipley rapidly turned it around and made it 3-2 , Ava Withers scored arguably the goal of the game as it started from a TD goal kick, Isabelle rolls the ball to Maddie who plays a nice pass into Abbie's feet and plays a sublime pass down the line into the path of Ava who drives past 2, cuts inside and finishes into the bottom left corner.
Half time 3-2 TD
7 mins into the second half Lily Stewart made it 4-2 with a good corner routine, Abbie goes short and creates a 2v1 with Lily Stewart who gets the ball back from Abbie and Lily strikes first time across the keeper and into the bottom corner.
Shipley continued to be aggressive and on the front foot, and made it 5-2. POTM Poppy Hollings showed sublime pressing work for the whole game and deservedly grabbed herself a goal. Again come from smart pressing in areas high up the pitch and Poppy pounces really well and nicks off the defenders toes and coolly finished into the corner.
TD in control of the game, but the home side grabbed a few goals back, roffey scored a penalty to make it 5-3, and shortly after Poppy got her second of the game and capatalising on a mistake from the goalkeeper from their goal kick, wins the ball high, drives forwards and finishes to score her second of the game to make it 6-3.
Late on Roffey score to make it 6-4 but not enough time to get another one and TD defend well for the last few mins to hold out.
Considering the two-month break from competitive football, TD Shipley produced an impressive all round performance and showed great determination to come away with the win.
Poppy Hollings claims POTM due to constant hard work, superb pressing and scoring 2 goals aswell.
Onto next weekend, TD face Crowborough away. COME ON TD!!!
