The new season kicked off with an unfortunate result for TD, who were beaten 4-0 by a clinical Hastings side despite an encouraging performance for large parts of the game. A 10-minute period in the second half proved decisive, as the visitors struck three quickfire goals to kill off the match.
The home side started brightly, pressing high and moving the ball confidently. Their energy and intent were clear to try and start the season fast and well, they created a handful of chances without managing to open the scoring.
The visitors took the lead in the 15th minute. The Away Team pressed high up the pitch and won the ball high from a goal kick and finished well.
Half time 0-1.
TD started the second half well, wanting to get back into the game with a fast start, good pressing, moving the ball around well, and putting in some very good tackles and blocks.
But in the 45th minute, things changed as Hastings were able to get their second of the game and make it a uphill struggle from there. Unfortunately for TD, there was no let up from the away side as they continued to pounce on the home side and we were able to add 2 more goals in quick succession.
For the last 10 minutes of the game, after the 4th had gone in, TD raised the tempo again and wanted to try and find their first goal of the game, but it wouldn't come.
Full time 0-4.
A strong performance for TD Girls who battled and put in a good effort against a top side, but ultimately a 10 minute spell changed the game and allowed Hastings to add to the scoreline.
Player of the match today was Lily Stewart, battled well and put TD on the front foot in every given opportunity by driving and going at the defenders. Throughout the game put in some inviting crosses and created numerous chances.
Onto next Sunday, where we face Cuckfield cosmos at home!!! COME ON TD!
