TD Girls were back in action this weekend after a month out, with a game at home against Barnham Trojans
In a closely contested encounter, TD Shipley claimed a vital 2-1 victory over Barnham, pushing them one step closer to the league title. The match featured a combination of superb team determination, and late drama that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
An electrifying start to the match saw the first goal come within just two minutes, the ball was slotted neatly through the defenders by Shanna who found Kara Murray who couldn't latch onto the ball first time as the keeper claimed at the first chance but the GK couldn't hold onto the ball which fell into the path off Kara who finished well.
After scoring, the home team continued to grow into the game, pressing higher up the pitch and creating several dangerous chances.
Barnham were able to get back in the game as they scored from a cross from the left hand side to make it 1-1. Half time soon arrived with the game at 1-1.
The second half began with both teams pushing for the all-important next goal. TD looked the more dangerous of the two, with Poppy and Kara testing the opposition goalkeeper on multiple occasions. In the 39th minute, the decisive moment of the match arrived. Kara picked up the ball on the right hand side who had the better off the left centre back, and crossed the ball in the box, in which Poppy struck but was blocked, fortunately for the home side it fell to the feet off Khloe Gundlach who smashed it into the top right corner.
Barnham pushed for an equalizer in the final stages of the match, but TD's defense held firm, with Isabelle Hussein making a crucial and unbelievable save in the dying minutes to preserve the lead by throwing herself into the danger and making a huge save to claim all 3 points.
The match ended 2-1 with TD claiming all 3 points. For TD the result extends the unbeaten run to 10 games in the league and 2 points away from the league title.
Amber Minter claimed POTM, after playing superbly in the defensive midfield role to stop one of the opponents players. Amber also protected the defense really well with fantastic defending and tackles.
Onto next weekend, where TD Girls are away to Barnham for the second week in a row. Come on TD!!!
