Its been a while since the boys have been able to play.
Last weeks match was a washout & after the previous result the boys wanted to get back out there and prove a point.
We knew Lindfield was always going to be a difficult match, we always have good games against each other.
There was a change in formation and personnel due to sickness and feedback from the boys. A 4-3-3 was the choice with Oliver back in goal, Ethan, Cam, Toby and Dean at the back. Stan, Jack and Lewis W in the middle with Harley, Kieron and Stephen up top.
We started well and won the ball back high and seemed to be on the front foot. Within the first 4 minutes Stephen had taken 2 knocks and had to come off so Sam slotted in there for him.
The boys were holding onto the ball quite well but a bit of miscommunication and a sloppy pass gave the ball away in the midfield and a lobbed through ball set their winger through and he dinked it over the top of Oliver for 0-1. 7 minutes in and not the start we needed.
It took the goal to wake our boys up and with just over 10 minutes on the clock, some great work down the left from Kieron and Dean set Sam through with Sam getting his shot away, hitting the keeper, bouncing up and hitting the defender before Sam and looping into the net for 1-1.
Right from Kick off, we pressed high and won the ball high. Lewis won it and played in Harley. Harley dribbled brilliantly past 2 men before holding his pass for Kieron's Run. Harley dinked a beaut of a pass through to the run of Kieron who finished calmly past the onrushing keeper for 2-1.
This put the boys in a buoyant mood and they started to play some really good possession based football and pinging it about back to front getting all the defenders, midfielders and even Oliver involved. Sam was battling like a trooper, winning long balls and bringing the rest of the team into the game.
With just under 20 on the clock we got our third and it was some brilliant work again from Sam down the left, sitting 2 players down before cutting the ball all the way across to the back post where Harley took it down and finished brilliantly into the back of the net for 3-1.
Lewis B came on for Ethan for the last 10 minutes of the half and with this the boys continued to dominate the ball and play it about but the chances slowed down to a few long shots from outside the area. Stan, Jack and Lewis were running the middle and Stan was very aggressive in winning the ball back with Jack shielding and Lewis trying his best to create.
HT- TD - 3 - Lindfield - 1
At the half we had to make a change with Dean coming off after landing awkwardly on his wrist. Lewis B moved over to LB and Ethan came back on at RB.
We started off slow, giving away possession on a few occasions but kept pushing forward.
After 10 minutes, Stephen came back on for Lewis W and Sam dropped into the 10 role to keep control of the midfield.
It was a long ball over the top from the keeper that bounced and caught our defence out and their left winger ran through and finished past Oliver to make it 3-2.
We continued to hold on and create chances however the game descended into a battle of long balls with both teams trying to catch the other out. Sam had to go off with 10 mins left due to bloody knees so Lewis W came back in. We got caught out a few minutes later after one of our attacks broke down and a diagonal ball set the LW through again and he dinked it over Oliver and despite the best efforts of Toby to clear it off the line, it hit the bar and bounced in. 3-3.
The boys pushed and pushed to get the winner but ultimately fell short with a few shots going wide and Harley hitting the bar.
FT- TD - 3 - Lindfield - 3
A better performance than last time out against HPC but it was a tale of two halves today with the boys struggling to get the same level of drive and football in the second half. When we got on the front foot it looked like we were going to boss the game but credit to Lindfield for getting back into it and defending well in the final minutes.
MOTM- Cam Shaw - Cam came into the back line today and worked well with Toby in there. Vocal, confident with the ball at his feet and defended well.
