Dragons drop out the Cup

Dragons drop out the Cup

Neil Mackey-Fitzsimons29 Sep - 10:44

Extra Time loss against a strong Ringmer side.

A tough one to take.

Not a performance we have been used to this season.

The boys struggled to get the passing game going in the first half and thanks to some great saves from Freddie H, we went into half time 0-0

Second half we improved with a handful of changes.

We had a penalty given within 2 minutes of the kick off but unfortunately unable to convert it.

We did take the lead after 55 minutes through Lewis W. Stephen whipped in a corner into the danger area, Sam kept it alive and played it back into Lewis who finished well from 5 yards out. 1-0

We were pinned back straight away from a ball over the top and a finish into the far corner. 1-1

We went back up the other end and were on the front foot and eventually got the next goal. Lewis W took the corner and it dropped again into the danger area, Harley bought it down and dribbled through 4 tackles before finishing with his left foot into the bottom corner. 2-1.

An injury to Stan forced him off after being kicked in the face by accident but from the resulting goal kick, we gave away possession in the box and their striker rounded the keeper and slotted it in. 2-2

We were on the front foot but couldn't find the winner in normal time.

FT - 2 - 2

Extra time loomed and we were on the front foot again. However after 4 minutes of the 10 in the first half of extra time we switched off down the left and a long ball was hit and no communication from the boys the winger of Ringmer was able to get onto the end of it before pulling the ball back into the middle of the box and again, someone switched off and didn't pick up their man and it was slotted into the bottom corner.

We continued to try and get back into the game but Ringmer defended well with 7 players sitting behind the ball and made it difficult to get the equaliser.

FT AET - 2-3

We were beaten by the better team on the day, they wanted it more and fought for the win and unfortunately for us at TD, the boys just didn't turn up from the start today.

MOTM- Kieron F - took the game to ringmer today, battled against players double his size, dealt with a lot of fouls and drove the team forward.
