Dragons Dominate in Cup

Charlie with a fantastic Debut!

After last weeks thrilling start to the season, the boys wanted to push forward and get a win in the cup.

With a few more players available this week but also a few new knocks, there was some shuffling needed to be done with the starting 11.
Freddie H took his spot between the sticks, Charlie E started his first game for the club at Lcb, Toby and Ethan finished the back 3. Lewis W, Stan, Harley and Cam made up the midfield. Our front 3 of Stephen, Dorian and Sam finished the line up. Our bench was ridiculously strong again, with Lewis B, Dean, Jack and Freddie O as back up.

We started well, keeping the ball, playing it between the defenders and Midfielders, to get a feel of the pitch and to also figure out the opponents. Woodingdean had won last week against Saltdean who we have played previously last year in Div 2 so we told the boys that this would be a good challenge for them.

We were getting Joy down the wings with Harley, Dorian, Cam and Ethan all getting forward and putting a few decent balls into the box but Wanderers keeper was doing well.

Charlie, starting on the left side of the back 3 was doing brilliant, Linking up well with Toby to snuff out any ball over the top while playing some fantastic passes to get us further up the pitch and start a few attacks. So calm on the ball and slotted in so well back there.

Our first goal took a bit of time to come but once it did, the floodgates opened. The goal came from Ethan, winning the ball on the right before beating his man and playing a quick 1-2 with Dorian. Ethan took the ball in his stride and knocked it past another player before pinging a brilliant ball into the run of Stephen, who took his volley first time but it hit the post before bouncing right back to him to tap into the empty net. 1-0

From here we went fully into attack mode! We won the ball straight from kick off, Lewis pinged a pass into the path of Cam, who won us a corner. Stephen stepped up and whipped a deep cross into the far post and Harley met it so cleanly on the volley low and hard into the bottom corner. 2-0

Wanderers could not deal with our pace down the wings and from kick off again, Charlie won the ball, switched it over to Toby, who played it out to Ethan. Ethan played it up to Cam who turned his man, before sending Dorian through on goal. Big D out paced his man before hitting a low cross into the near post with a deflection finishing off the goal. 3-0

Our next goal came within a few minutes again. Toby winning the ball back, playing it out to Charlie who sent a pass into Stan. Stan was in acres of space, turned and looked up before picking a delightful dink pass into the path of Dorian who with an outstanding touch got the ball under control and finished under the keeper with his weak foot. 4-0

A few minutes had passed before we got our next goal, and arguably the best of the bunch! Stan won the ball back in the midfield before being hauled down around 40 yards out. Free kick! Lewis W placed the ball and after a quick chat with Stephen, confidently stepped up. Lewis took a short run up before hitting an absolute thunder bugger of a free kick into the top left corner past the diving keeper! 5-0

Another came shortly after with Ethan sending Cam free down the right hand side. Cam took a great touch past his man before delivering a peach of a ball into the middle and Stephen doing his best Robin Van Persie impression, buried it with a diving header into the roof of the net. 6-0

There was still time for one more goal before the half. Stephen switched the ball from the left over to Dorian before D took a shot, the keeper knocked it back out and Dorian delivered a great pass back into the middle that Stephen laid back into the path of Sam who finished emphatically past the keepers dive! 7-0

HT - Woodingdean Wanderers 0 - TD - 7

At the half, there wasn't much we could say to the boys as they blitzed the game so far. We made a few changes with Ethan coming off for Dean, Lewis W & Stan off for Jack and Lewis B and Freddie for Cam.

We started strong in the second half again with Charlie winning the ball back, this time at RCB, before playing a great pass into the path of Sam. Sam beat his man before laying it into Dorian's path. Dorian dribbled past his player and then as he got into the edge of the box, hit an absolute rocket into the far left hand top corner with 1 shoe on! 8-0

The game got a little scrappy at this point with the boys doing their best to keep the ball and keep the pressure on. Charlie again won the ball back on the right hand side, tackling his man and getting his head up before playing a great pass through into the run of Sam. Sam beat his man with a step over before laying it off to Stephen who finished calmly into the bottom corner for his Hat trick. 9-0

Our flowing football continued with Lewis B playing a quick 1-2 with Stephen down the right before playing a great pass into Cam. Cam took a great touch before playing in Harley who took one touch and finished brilliantly into the bottom right hand corner. 10-0

Our last goal came from a brilliant ball over the top by Dean to Harley who outpaced his man before laying the ball back into Cam who finished brilliantly first time into the far corner. 11-0

FT- Woodingdean 0 - TD - 11

A brilliant and decisive performance from the boys today who looked relentless in front of goal

Motm- Charlie Enock! Unanimous today, to come in on your debut and perform like that at both LCB and RCB, incredible. Well done Charlie!
