The pitch conditions were always going to dictate this game, the Dragons not used to playing on such a small pitch and with the ground firming up after being played while soft, the pitch was full of ruts and cuts, the referee deemed the pitch almost unplayable!
For the past 18 months we have been trying to drill into the boys about playing a passing tikki takka game but this pitch would not allow this so we had to resort to playing a longer territorial game, the boys found this adjustment difficult which is to be expected.
From the whistle the home side launched the ball forward which signalled what our defence was going to have to deal with all game, proper defending, winning headers, big tackles, clearances, to be fair our boys were up to the task.
We did find it difficult to create chances early on, but midway through the first half, a free kick from Jack evaded everyone including the keeper to nestle into the corner of the net for a slender lead.
The lead was doubled as the half drew to a close when a corner from Landon was turned in by an unlucky Lindfield defender.
HT: 2-0
At the beginning of the second half the Lindfield boys worked really hard to get back into the match and scored when a cross/shot was deflected into the TD net.
This could have signalled a tricky spell for the Dragons but it had then opposite effect. From this point the Dragons upped their game and took the result away from Lindfield with some nice finishes.
Ashden netted at the 2nd attempt to give the Dragons a couple of goals daylight again before Harry G broke clear and made no mistake for the 4th.
Frankie finished well with a shot from distance which drilled into the corner before Jai completed the scoring with a lovely touch and finish.
However it was the defence marshalled by Harry T and Charlie who set the platform for the midfielders and forwards to enjoy this game.
A good performance from the Dragons on this tough surface.
FT: 6-1
PMOM: Harry T - Solid at the back when we needed him to be.
