In a classic game of 2 Halves: The Dragons were at their clinical best first half, but under par second half.
After a nervy opening the Dragons set about cutting through Maidenbower and 2 quick and great finishes from Jake set them on their way, a third from Jake again from a free kick seemed to put the Dragons into ta really strong position. Maidenbower chances were at a minimum as the midfield and defence dominated.
HT: 3-0
Second half and Maidenbower seemed to have changed their tactics and were looking to be more direct.
As the TD midfield drove forwards the Maidenbower defenders played longer balls over the top of our midfield which then gave their midfielders and attackers only our defence to beat. We didn't deal with the direct play allowing the ball to bounce and their attackers to get in behind us.
Also our midfield were caught trying to push too much and we were punished.
Maidenbower profited from the new phases of the game and their goals followed, with each goal came more confidence and from 0-3 down turned the game on its head and grabbed a 4-3 lead.
As TD reset our formation, the final minutes of the game saw us with 2 great chances to equalise or take the lead. We didn't take the chances but have shown enough to give us good hope that we can overturn the single goal deficit in the second leg.
FT: 3-4
