TD 2nds Fall short against a Stubborn Ashurst side:
Lovely weather for the fixture today for the 2nd team to play their game as they were in good spirits for this match.
A nice walk to warm them up, everyone was hoping for a turnaround from last week’s fixture.
The first 20 minutes or so TD showed pure domination, as Mario caused havoc creating many chances, however couldn’t make anything of them. Multiple opportunities hitting the woodwork and even their keeper making some brilliant saves. It really should have been 3-0 TD in the first 20 minutes and Senra getting goal of the season he seems to be chasing.
It was quickly shown though that these chances frustrated us, and Ashurst slowly and steadily got into the game, it’s a shame the half time whistle came round so soon as it stopped the game becoming a real one to watch.
All the TD players were trying everything they can to break the deadlock, and as much as they huffed and puffed. Nothing changed the scoreline.
As frustrations grew, coming up to the 70th minute, Ashurst put in a beautiful ball into the box for their striker to convert it in, however, luckily for us it was to be disallowed, as TD played a lovely offside trap to fool them led by the immaculate Acton. Nonetheless, a real warning sign for TD for the final third of the game.
The next 20 minutes, Ashurst only showed slight glimpses of attack, however after a scrappy bit of play, the ball landed to their number 17 and he took his chance and placed it into the bottom corner. A real shock in the match.
TD’s chances continued as Charlie Hewitt crossed in some incredible chances, however TD’s frustrations grew. As they couldn’t convert anything. It seems a real smash and grab was achieved here by Ashurst.
Full time approached and the home side were victorious. A 1-0 defeat for TD, a tough one to take in.
The Gaffer, Stuart Powell said: “I can’t put my finger on it, it’s a game we should have won but ultimately we lost, it’s a bump in the road that makes next weeks game extremely important”
TD now have 7 games left of their season, arguably 7 cup finals, to win the league they will need to win all of them.
Harry Cope, was immense with Ryan Murphy being absent, he broke up play and dominated the midfield, and showed determination as a winner. His hard work created opportunities for TD, just a shame that they couldn’t be converted on a bobbly pitch, that resembled more of a braille reading pad than a football pitch.
Dan Lake, the TD’s 3 keeper took place in the sticks as Harry Charman featured for the first team. However, he didn’t look out of place one bit, making great saves in the second half and keeping our hopes alive for the majority of the match.
