TD arrived with a spring in their step and brimming with confidence, after recent results. The pitch was a little small and although it looked good it soon cut up and the ball resembled a mildly melted malteser. Even with a pitch not conclusive to the free flowing football that TD has been accustomed to, a brilliant through ball to Tony Garrod from Senra, who dealt with it expertly and cut it back for Big George to help himself to the first goal of the match after 1 min. 2 mins later George was put through again to put TD 2 up. The flag from brooks lino had all in attendance gasping in disbelieve , surely the ref would over rule as George looked to be so far on side he was holding hands with his own keeper. It was not to be as the ref backed the lino wearing shades so dark they looked like black out blinds on an already over cast day. TD stay 1-0 up. this left the TD bench visibly livid. Holbrook started to get a little bit of a foot hold and were getting half chances as TD struggled with the conditions , The gaffer screamed at Borer to put studs on as he slipped about like Bambi on ice only to be notified he already was wearing them. Tony plucked the ball out of the air with finesse, chopped it back on his right foot sending the whole Holbrook back line to the shops, unfortunately so did Tonys standing leg showing today was not going to be great for anyone with a touch and ability.
On 22 mins TD didn't deal with a cross to the back post and Paddy helped himself 1-1. long throw after long throw pinned TD back until Ayman came off the bench on 30 mins and Harry p switched to the right . For 15 mins on possible the only part of the pitch still green Ayman went on the rampage his linkup play with Sayif was exceptional. . Ayman hit the post and created 3 or four good chances, it would have been more if it hadn't been for that pesky lino. On 44 mins Ayman dazzled again drilling a ball towards the back post. Harry P just couldn't get there so close to being 2-1 up. 30 seconds later Holbrook crossed into the TD box and brooks number 10 Warren was there to nod home unopposed a big blow , TD go in at HT 2-1 down
TD were not at the races 2nd half as Holbrook took siege on the TD box. Harry Charman (MOM) made save after save ,the no look save with the back of his bonce was a joy to behold. Butler and Charlie cleared of the line and the goal posts did their very best to stop the Holbrook onslaught. It was inevitable Holbrook would score but again a cross wasn't dealt with and a brook player headed home unopposed. 3 unopposed headers had the TD management highly disappointed. In past weeks TD have shown great character and it turned out again. with 15 mins left on the clock TD started to look like a proper team Sayif leading the way and Charlie using all his experience to get a grip of things. The Holbrook lino was up to his old tricks waving his flag like a kid at a Disney parade, phantom foul throws and off sides, imaginary fouls, The TD gaffer blew his top as the afternoons frustrations got the better of him, he got a reprieve as he only saw yellow from the ref. With time running out Charlie put the ball down a fully 40 yards out. With everyone expecting a cross he stunned everyone with a thunderbolt into the top corner. To prove it wasn't a fluke he did it again 2 mins later only for the keeper to get finger tips to it ,so the score remained 3-2 Holbrook.
TD kept pushing and the ball just wouldn't fall there way. It was in the 89th min Sayif was upended in the box and the ref was left with no option. Yep the Holbrook lino protested but was waved away. Big George stepped up and drilled it to the keepers left with real venom but the keeper was equal to it and pulled out a brilliant save , seconds later with no added time the ref blew and Holbrook finished the victors 3-2. TD left licking there wounds , although brilliant on a good pitch a savvy ness to compete on smaller pitches must be learnt. If TD continue to let teams have free headers in the box any chance of success this season will be seriously hindered. Up next is the county cup and a reaction expected.
MOM was Harry Charman, Tony showed moments of real class as his rehabilitation carrys's on ,Sayif again didn't dissappoint
A bump in the road for the reserves , They push on again Saturday.
