After heavy rain most of the week concerns were the matches would be called off. That shouldn't of been a worry at all as Crusaders rented Broad bridge Heaths old ground in the middle of the athletics track and was firm under foot ,moulds again lads!. To their disappointment and ours the grounds man didn't have the urge to cut the grass, as we approached Ben said to me there boots heave disappeared …...Grass up to there ankles.
Some of our football recently has been top class and a pitch like this wasn't going to help our style of play especially as I'd asked for all out attack ,the best form of defence is attack with 5 fullbacks and one centre half I was going for "if you score 4 we will score 6" attitude.
With all that being said our first 45 mins was probably the best football we have played all season . the front 4 connected very well and Jamie ( Mr reliable) and the beast that is Gideon just dominated the middle of the park. It was no surprise adding Dan Macs quality and experience and having already played with George in the past the link up play and interchanging of positions was seamless. Younis improved again, his decision making is improving week on week and releasing the ball quicker and more often.
The first goal came from a penalty after George was put up in the air and Ben slotted with out a doubt. Younis then terrorised them and should of been awarded 2 pens before, goal of the season contender, he went round I think 6 of there lads and put the keeper on his arse before calmly slotting. HT I asked for more of the same.
A game of two halves. The sun was in our eyes now I got 2 balls in the face, Jamie let the ball roll past him thinking Dylan was next to him and it was the ref. colours blurred into one and it had to be safety first from the back. Basically kick it away and hope for the best. Crusaders tried there best to take advantage of this. Alfie was having none of it chest out and leaders mentality came shining through, a tackle so hard it got a lions roar from Alf and a massive reaction from the TD boys....not today Crusaders.
TD then broke quickly down the right and Dan delivered a peach of a ball early into the area of chaos I've been encouraging all season and up pops Reece again. Reece has scored in every game this season bar Holbrook. gives great confidence to the boys that we seem to be 1-0 up every week before we start with Reece in the dressing room.
A set piece let us down near the end and we conceded…. which made the last 10 mins more nervy that it should of been. Final whistle 3 points on the board again. good result. Good to see Dylan Weller back and when he gets match fit will be a massive bonus for us, Jack Charman stood up again and at this point all he needs is experience now.
MOM could of easily gone to Younis again but when called upon, when the defence was creaking Alfie monstered it!!! real passion, commitment and leadership which was recognised and reacted to by his team mates
Captain Fantastic Alfir MOM.
