Beer & Hunter at the Double

The Dragon20 Jan 2020 - 15:18

A comfortable 5-1 Victory over Bosham

After another week of wind and rain, this game looked like it would be destined for postponement but the pitch passed its 9am inspection and surprisingly was set to go ahead. On arrival, the sun was shining and the pitch looked in brilliant condition and it did very well to hold up against the weather thrown at it this week. Enforced changes were necessary as the TD back line were missing a few faces, Tom Cousins, Dan Millard, Jack Ranson & James Lovett were all unavailable and Joe Ranson had suffered some cracked ribs in last weeks friendly against Shoreham. In came Jerome Johnston and Matt Slater along side Shane Redley, with Jason Bartlett and Adam Charvill providing the width on the flanks. Jermaine Beer came in up top with Cave leaving Brad Curtis and Chris & Micky Neatherway on the bench.

Once on the surface it was clear it wouldn't be pretty affair and it might disrupt the visitors playing style but TD certainly did well to enforce their dominance on the game from the off. The Home side gave up plenty of space and possession allowing TD to build from the back and probe their way forward, and it seemed only a matter of time before a well timed through ball would open up the Bosham defence.

Adam Charvill managed to get down the left a few times and cut back for Beer and then Sullivan but both were unable to test the hosts goalkeeper. Byrne, Sullivan & Hunter were doing well to win any second balls and break up any bursts forward from Bosham and one of these turnovers led to the opening goal. On 11 minutes Dan Sullivan managed to poke a ball through the home sides defence and Jermaine Beer stroked it into the net. 0-1 TD

The lead looked like it would only increase but TD once again lacking the final ball or the clinical edge in front of goal. Bosham defended doggedly and looked to spring counter attacks when sloppy passing from the visitors put the TD midfield out of position. Jerome Johnston proving to be a worthy stand in on the left hand side, preventing many breaks forward.

It took until the 42nd minute for TD to grab the second courtesy of a Liam Hunter free-kick. Sullivan had taken the previous one and forced a good save from Redman in the Bosham goal, but Hunter stuck this one in the opposite side from 25 yards leaving Redman no chance. 0-2 TD

Just as it looked like the AWAY side would take a comfortable lead in to the HT break, Bosham pulled one back on 44mins via Alex Barnes. He cut in from the left hand side and courtesy of some poor defending and after avoiding numerous challenges, unleashed a strike past Mark Fox from outside the box. 1-2 TD

There was still time for Liam Hunter managed to restore the visitors 2 goal advantage before the break slotting home after a mix up in the Bosham defence. HT 1-3 TD

The second half began much like the first with TD having some lengthy spells of possession and Bosham sitting back and bursting forward with swift counter attacks. However, Mark Fox was still untested with the visitors back line comfortably dealing with Bosham's quick moves forward. Liam Hunter turned provider for the 4th on 52 minutes, sliding a pass into Jermaine Beer, and he grabbed his second with a very neat finish into the bottom corner. 1-4 TD

Changes were made on the hour mark with Chris Neatherway & Brad Curtis replacing Mark Cave & Liam Hunter. The game was beginning to get stretched with both sides obviously feeling the effects of the heavy pitch and the final 30 minutes became an entertaining end to end battle. Micky Neatherway replaced Jason Bartlett and the right side of the pitch, with the Neath erway's fresh legs saw the brunt of the TD attacks. The play seemed to swing down TDs right and then back down Bosham's right but for all the attacking flair, both keepers were relatively quiet. Brad Curtis dragged a longshot wide and Matt Slater flashed a cross through the 6 yard box but nobody was there to tap in at the back post.

TD finally got the goal they deserved on 85mins via the marauding centre back for the day, Matt Slater. Some neat play at the back after a Bosham attack was quashed, Johnston found Curtis in the centre circle, with the latter sweeping a ball down the right hand side for Slater to latch on to. He carried the ball into the Bosham half and continued to drive forward, leaving the nearby defenders in his wake and beautifully tucked a shot inside the left had post. FT 1-5 TD
